Finding what works for you

Welcome to another week of learning how to best incorporate dance into your lifestyle! This week is all about finding the right fit for your personal wellness goals. Dance is a form of fitness; therefore, it comes in a variety of levels and styles. While Free Mind offers classic styles such as ballet, the company also showcases a newer branch of styles such as commercial dance. That’s to say, that no matter your fitness goals there will be a place for you at Free Mind.

Creating your wellness goals can range from short to long term. Improving flexibility, building stamina, improving technique, or just drinking more water are some examples of common and achievable goals. Taking time to determine what you are looking to gain from dance classes at Free Mind will set you up for future success. The benefits of dancing can be seen through physical, mental, and social engagement. Dance increases muscle strength, reduces stress, keeps your brain active, improves balance, and so much more! Different styles of dance can help to achieve certain wellness goals, so let’s now go through a few classes at Free Mind and how they can assist you in achieving your goals.

Different styles of dance offered at Free Mind

Beginning with ballet, this style is the backbone to all other forms of dance. Ballet specifically is a great choice if your wellness goals include improving flexibility, posture, or building muscle and agility. The class “Bad B!tch Ballet: Slay in Plie” taught by Madz Alexander will combine strength and elegance. This form of fitness combines dynamic stretching, precise movements, and total body coordination throughout the course of one class. Ballet is commonly known for building balance skills, which is a transferable skill to other forms of dance and sports in general. This full body workout will leave you feeling disciplined and bold with your movements, so if this aligns with your goals come join Madz in the studio!

Another classic and well-rounded fitness style offered at Free Mind is hip-hop. This style is well known for being high in cardio, improving coordination, and assisting cognitive skills. Free Mind’s “Intro to Hip-Hop: Learn to Groove” taught by Taylor Sweeney is designed for everyone, regardless of prior dance experience. It will be 1 ½ hours of high energy and self-expression, building from hip-hop fundamentals. This dance style can be a great opportunity for socialization and working on muscle memory. Taylor will teach you about the world of movement and rhythm throughout your hip-hop journey. Hip-hop will be a fast-paced dance style helping you to achieve your wellness goals.

Now on to newer styles in the realm of dance, Free Mind offers an “Intro to Heels: Beginner Choreo” class. Heels can help you achieve wellness goals aligning with core strength, stability, and confidence! This class is taught for beginners by a heel’s beginner, CEO of Free Mind Callie Beattie. Heels class is a judgment free zone with the foundation of learning together through laughter and empowerment. This class is a reminder that fitness can occur even through “non-traditional” activities. Intro to Heels has the benefit of diversity because choreography can be related to any genre of music. This class will provide you with extra strength and balance, as well as a new unique skill set and confidence.

The last style that will be highlighted today is Commercial Dance! This is a style truly designed to be performed in front of an audience. It can increase stage presence, technique, and versatility. Commercial dance does not focus on one specific style, but instead creates a performer who is well rounded in multiple genres. “Intro to Commercial Dance: Fierce and Feminine” at Free Mind taught by Angela Laurito prides itself on blending dynamic dance moves with empowering choreography. While your fitness journey might be personal, it also might be something you want to showcase to others, and commercial dance is the perfect style for that. Free Mind offers a fresh and transformative experience for your wellness objectives through commercial dance.
