Creating Your Morning Routine

Key takeaways

  • Open-mind theory: Starting your day with an optimistic view is the best way to make the most of your day.

  • Routine ideas: Choose a few things you love to do every morning and do them! These are just a few ideas.

  • Listen to yourself: Each morning should be a time to connect with yourself and listen to your daily needs.

Mornings are beautiful

Hello readers! At whatever time of day you’re reading this, I hope it can be a day full of kindness and success towards yourself and goals. Creating your morning routine can be a challenge. For those of you who wouldn’t consider yourself a “morning person” this is especially true to you! Learning your personal needs in the morning may be a place of trial and error, but once you get it down it can change the course of your entire day. Beginning each day with intentional living is a productive stride towards making this a reality.

Mornings are, in my opinion, a beautiful part of our day. Each time I wake up early and use each hour in the day to my advantage I feel like I am living my fullest life. Finding a morning routine will give you more time in the day to focus on yourself, while still allowing time in the day for all necessary tasks. The outlook you set at the beginning of a day will set the precedent for your attitude to come. Starting the day with an open mind will give you grace for any hiccups that may come your way in the upcoming day. Similarly, an open mind will allow you to be flexible and patient. These skills are important to enjoy your day, no matter what comes to fruition. Creating a small morning routine will bring structure and peace to the start of your day, so let’s get into it!

Set your routine

When you first start intentionally waking up early and creating a routine it may feel painful. We all love our beauty sleep! Waking up early is not meant to cut down on the amount of sleep you obtain, it is only meant to set goals for the time you have when you’re awake. There are many achievable steps you can take to ensure you’re making the most out of your time. Some of the best proven morning activities are the following:

Make your bed: Such a simple task! This can take as little as 30 seconds and truly enhances your mindset. Having this first task to motivate you each day will set you up for the rest of your routine to follow.

Drink water: We all love our coffee, tea, chai, and matcha’s, however don’t leave out that love for water. For every caffeinated beverage you consume, try to have one full glass of water to compensate. As an avid water and coffee drinker I promise your body will thank you!

Avoid screentime: The first thing you do when you wake up is check your phone, right? Challenge yourself to wait 30 minutes before jumping into the online world. Use this time to connect with yourself and your energy, therefore you’re better equipped to handle social media.

Healthy breakfast: As the age old saying goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Make sure you are fueling your body with protein, dairy, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Meal prepping items such as overnight oats or breakfast burritos will save you trouble in the morning while allowing yourself necessary fuel.

Small workout: Getting exercise in during your day is important, so you could bang this out right in the morning. Anything from a walk, to weight training, to yoga is great! Whatever method of exercise you love, you do.

Create to do list: Get the list out of your mind and onto paper. This small step will guarantee you accomplish everything you mentally planned for the day, and it’s so satisfying to check items off a list.

Hype yourself up for the day: Never forget to give yourself encouragement! This day can be anything you want it to be or need to hear. If you don’t do any other step in your morning routine, make sure to do this one.

Feeling good!

Try different combinations of these suggestions until you find the routine that works best for you! You can do any of these steps interchangeably depending on what you need most on a particular morning. It’s all about doing the things that make you feel good and well prepared to take on the day! Taking days off from your routine and just sleeping in are also healthy. Mornings are about balance between selfcare and relaxation. Always listen to your body and adjust your routine based on your determinations. Hopefully, morning time will start to be something you look forward to. Early quiet time to sit with your own thoughts is a perfect recipe for a powerful day. Find the factors that make mornings a reason to look forward to instead of dread, that is when you know you’ve created your perfect morning routine. Start the day fresh, end the day strong, and feel good about yourself every step of the way!
